Mission and goals: Realize the benefits of diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership in a youth’s life and their community.
Realize the benefits of diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership with the Citizenship in Society Merit Badge. Scouts will research any individual who has demonstrated positive leadership while making an ethical decision, explain what options the leader had when faced with a problem, why they believe they chose their final course of action, and the outcome of the leader’s decision.
The badge covers the following topics:
Identities, diversity, equity relate to Scout Oath, Law
Leadership means ethical decision-making, positive influence
Research the individual showing ethical leadership, decision outcome
Reflect on personal ethical decisions, future improvements
List future ethical decisions, align with Scout values
Plan to act as upstander, help others
Demonstrate leadership in scenarios, supporting diverse Scouts
Create a welcoming environment, include all Scouts
Connect with Scouts of different identity, share experiences
Interview ethical leaders, apply lessons to life
Start Date: Year-round
Schedule: Usually weekly meetings
Location: Hybrid (both zoom + in person)
Cost: $85 (one-time fee to join the organization)
Financial Benefits: Scholarships are available
Age Range: 16-24
